Walter Reed Hospital (Old) and Holly Street Loop in Rock Creek Park
Up in the upper part of the NW quadrant of DC is the former Walter Reed Hospital campus. Currently the grounds are closed to the public, but should be open again after the renovations and building conversions in 2013 or 2014 at the latest. The former hospital military base is in a very beautiful section of the city where the neighboring houses (especially on 15th and 16th streets between Aspen and Holly, all the down to Military even) are themselves worthy of viewing.

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
The aquatic gardens are on the opposite side of the Anacostia river from the National Arboretum, and are beautiful collection of aquatic flowers and wild life that many long time DC residents have never visited or even know of its existence.

A less-well known gem of a memorial in DC, the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial is located on a small island on the Potomac river between Foggy Bottom and Rosslyn.
